Sapphire is also be found in various color such as; pink, yellow, green, purple color. They have 9 on the Mohs scale of gemstone hardness, whereas a diamond, the strongest gem of all, ranks 10. The word “ruby” originates from a Latin “ruber” word meaning “red” while the word “sapphire” originates from a Latin “saphirus” and a Greek “sapheiros” word meaning “blue”

A ruby is a pinkish red to blackish (deep) red coloured gemstone. While the most popular color of ruby is “Pigeon’s blood”, the vivid pure red color with no overtones of orange or brown. These rubies are the most prized and valuable of all rubies.
What color are sapphires?
Though sapphires are known as being blue, sapphires can actually also be pink, yellow, orange, green, purple, etc. The color tone of the stone is important. This refers to how dark the stone is. The popular and widely known color for the blue sapphire are “Royal blue”, deep vivid blue and slightly lighter than navy blue and “Cornflower blue”, A bright blue color, with a tint of purple. The saturation is another marker to refer how brightly the color is seen through. The more saturated stone is better than the less one.
